Hello. Here's your Newsletter for the week beginning 26 Feb. Our guest speaker on Wed eve 7 March is Prof. Katya Rubia who you may have seen on the TV documentary about ADHD with Rory Bremner. Are you worried about using ADHD medication? Wonder what alternatives there are? Can brain scans detect ADHD? The UK's leading expert on neuro-imaging is coming to meet you:

March 7:  Prof. Katya Rubia, who appeared on the Rory Bremner Horizon documentary, is coming to talk to our Group about brain imaging, neurofeedback and brain stimulation.

She will explain two studies (see below) for which her department at King’s College London is inviting boys (aged between 10 and 18) with ADHD within the London area to participate in trials assessing the effectiveness of non-drug, side-effect free treatments to help ADHD children improve their attention and self control. The aim is to help the research and development of alternatives to medication. The trials will take place at King’s College London Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (near Denmark Hill station, Camberwell)

Watch this video and book for her seminar via communications@adhdrichmond.org asap. It will be a very popular session!  Open to any parent/carer from any Borough.

Boys, 10-18, with ADHD are offered £540 + taxis for Kings College study to improve attention skills with a computer game
They will receive brain stimulation using transcranial direct current stimulation. It consists of very small electrical currents which will be placed over a frontal part of your brain to boost the learning effect in the computer game by giving your brain an extra “push”.This technique has been around for more than 20 years, it is completely safe, has no side effects and is used in many other patient groups.
This study will help to develop a new treatment for ADHD that is not reliant on pharmacological medication but on the patients’ own training of their attention and self-control skills with the extra help of some brain stimulation.
