DRONES DON'T WEAR UNIFORMS. THEY SHOULD. | After participating in our experts meetings on drones in the humanitarian sector, featured speaker Faine Greenwood (Harvard Humanitarian Initiative) penned this piece for foreignpolicy.com highlighting the need to visually identify benevolent drone systems. In the article, Faine says, "Before civilian drones became widespread, it was easy to make the argument that everyone who flew a drone in a conflict area was likely a combatant. It was also easy to argue that civilians knew that drones were intrinsically dangerous, and that there was therefore no need to mark them as military aircraft. That’s just not true anymore, in the era of near-ubiquitous consumer drones. Technology has, once again, outpaced both the law and our culture.". Read the full article

  • FOOD MEETS DESIGN: THE SAUSAGE OF THE FUTURE | We supported designer Carolien Niebling at the WantedDesign fair in Brooklyn, NY. Carolien's project takes on the sausage and rethinks it to reduce meat consumption. Taking it as an edible design item, she suggests diversifying its ingredients while challenging the traditional production techniques. We had sausage tastings, a beautiful scenography with photographs by Emile Barret and Jonas Marguet and talks about the future of food with special guests Emilie Baltz and Stefani Bardin. The project was organized by the Consulate General of Switzerland and swissnex in New York, supported by ECAL and Lars Mueller Publishers, and in collaboration with The Meat Hook and Vitra.   • NAFSA | The Swiss Reception at NAFSA 2018 in Philadelphia brought together Swiss and international higher education representatives. The Swiss National Startup Team took on 10 local startups at Novartis for an exciting pitch competition, showcasing emerging companies at the cutting edge of life sciences. Winners this year include Haya Therapeutics (audience prize) and Checkpoint AI (jury prize).
