Cicada Innovations welcomes cohort to inaugural MedLab accelerator program

After a gruelling 4-week selection process, Australia’s home of deep tech, Cicada Innovations, is this week welcoming the a cohort of six talented medtech startup businesses to its inaugural national medtech accelerator program, MedLab.
 
The twelve month, mentor-driven accelerator program will be led by medtech industry veteran, Warren Bingham, and the Cicada Innovations MedLab Team.
 
Program mentors include 40+ industry and domain experts who collectively bring a global level of experience and industry insights to the challenges of building a medtech startup.
 
At the end of the first 4 months, all six participants of the cohort will pitch to investors, industry peers, professionals, and members of the press at the MedLab Demo Day on 28 February 2019.

Successful graduates of the MedLab program will be eligible to be invited to join the Cicada Innovations incubator, which is home to over 70 deep tech start-ups. Here they will receive further long-term support and subsidised space for up to five years.

Meet our 2019/18 MedLab Cohort Companies!
  • Beyond 700 have developed TearView, a device which uses infrared imaging to detect breakages in a patient's’ tear film and accurately diagnose both the condition and the specific type of dry eye.
  • Doclink is a decision support tool designed for radiologists, which uses AI to improve the detection of cancer using image recognition and genomics.
  • Loop+‚Äč have created an activity tracker for wheelchair users that remotely monitors the risk and treatment of injury. Sensors in the wheelchair continuously track seated position, pressure, temperature and general activity, with personalised alerts that fit into the user’s everyday life.
  • Neuromersiv is a dedicated, coherent VR rehab & training system which enables neurotherapists and medical professionals to make brain rehab exercises more fun and emotionally engaging by allowing patients of strokes and other types of brain trauma to perform simple, enjoyable day to day daily living tasks using a VR headset.
  • Renature Labs technology is a micro platform delivery system which can be used for all peptides to be taken orally, rather than injected. It is the world’s first bio-technology making injectable peptides like insulin into orally available tablets.
  • Safe Degradable Implant Platform Innovations (SDIP Innovations) develops implants that are safe for the body and avoid second surgical interventions. SDIP Innovations provides a platform technology for different biomedical applications such as orthopaedic and cardiovascular.

Based at Cicada Innovations in Sydney,  MedLab provides early stage medtech startups with all the tools and support they need to grow and scale their businesses - this includes $50k in investment and the support of an diverse group of richly experienced innovators, investors, business builders and domain experts.
