Call to Action!

STOPPING BLM/CSU MARE STERILIZATION SURGERIES

The BLM Oregon is planning to conduct barbaric, pointless surgical sterilization experiments on 100 wild mares from the Warm Springs HMA in conjunction with Colorado State University. Most of the mares will be pregnant, and the surgery procedure  – ovariectomy by colpotomy – carries a high risk of pain, abortion, bleeding, infection and evisceration (intestines protruding through the surgical incision).

The National Academy of Sciences concluded it was “inadvisable for field application” – in this case, at the Burns short-term holding corrals. Two years ago, a loud public outcry prevented a similar experiment on Oregon mares by BLM and Oregon State University. Once again, we need to stop the BLM and a noted land grant university from treating protected wild horses like laboratory rats in the same Burns corral.

Comments on the Environmental Assessment are due July 30th.  You can submit them directly to the BLM at warmsprhma@blm.gov or through the American Wild Horse Campaign at americanwildhorsecampaign.org (If using the latter, please personalize your response, emphasizing or addingpoints as needed).

Sponsor Samson!

Samson is a beautiful 28 year old Appaloosa gelding. He was rescued last year from Havasupai Falls which is located at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Samson endured a life of hard work, packing supplies and people up and down the eight mile stretch of the canyon. Besides being weighted down with heavy equipment, people and supplies, Samson was cruelly beaten which rendered him blind, with a broken nose, and a knee injury that will never heal. Samson is still leery of people, however, he is allowing us to groom and pet him more and more each day.

Samson is one of our special needs horses, and could use some extra help. Would you consider sponsoring Samson, and help us give this amazing horse all the care he deserves?
