No Sterilization, says Senate Committee

The Senate Appropriations Committee has unanimously approved a FY19 Appropriations Bill that does not include language allowing for barbaric sterilization of our wild horses and burros!

The House Appropriations Committee's version of the bill, which they approved last week, included an amendment from Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) that allowed for the creation of same-sex or non-reproducing herds, as well as the inhumane sterilization of these animals with the cruel procedure called "ovariectomy via colpotomy." The Senate Committee, however, said no to this language and maintained the same protections for our wild horses and burros that they've had for over a decade, which continues to prohibit mass killing and "unlimited sale."

Happy Birthday!

On June 22nd, Strawberry Moon will be two years old!!! Strawberry Moon was born at the sanctuary six days after his mother was rescued and brought to safety. Nayla, a gorgeous roan, was found roaming through the desert. After three tries, we finally got her in the trailer, not knowing that she would be giving birth, six days later to a beautiful colt. Born under a rare strawberry moon, we felt the name fit perfectly. Happy birthday to you Strawberry!
