How to prevent radicalisation in prison? Efus and other European stakeholders at an EU conference in Brussels
As coordinator of the PREPARE European project on the prevention of radicalisation in prison and in probation, Efus took part in a conference on radicalisation in prison organised by the European Commission together with the European Organisation of Prison and Correctional Services (Europris) and the Confederation of European Probation (CEP), in Brussels on 27 February. Prison and probation experts, judges, prosecutors, academics, and representatives of international organisations and NGOs exchanged on a number of issues, including the relevance of risk assessment tools, the content of training programmes for prison staff and probation officers, the impact of rehabilitation programmes and the management of returnees. ...
Partners in the PRACTICIES project meet in Salzburg to exchange on the prevention of radicalisation at the local level
Efus and representatives of 10 European cities that are partner in the PRACTICIES European project (Partnership Against Violent Radicalisation in Cities) took part in a meeting with other partners in the project as well as experts to discuss the prevention of violent radicalisation at the local level, in Salzburg (Austria) on 1-2 March. They exchanged on their experience of violent radicalism, measures taken locally to prevent it, lessons learned and how to develop better prevention strategies in the future. ...

Protecting public spaces: Efus at the EU conference of mayors on “building urban defences against terrorism”
How to better protect public spaces in European cities in the face of terrorist threats? Efus and representatives of a dozen member cities attended the “EU mayors conference” on “building urban defences against terrorism” organised in Brussels by the Commission and the Committee of the Regions, on 8 March. Affirming that “local authorities can play an active and crucial role in the protection of citizens”, EU officials also stressed the funding opportunities for European local authorities, in particular a €118.5 million line that will be available by mid-2018 “to support cities investing in security solutions”. ...
