Two young delegates to Efus' 2017 international conference tell about their experience and how they presented the Mannheim Declaration for Diversity
Interview with two youngsters from Mannheim (DE) who were among a few dozen young Europeans invited to Efus' 2017 “Security, Democracy and Cities” international conference in Barcelona: they tell their experience. Thanks to co-funding from the European Commission through the ERASMUS+ Youth in Action Programme, Efus had invited 31 young people from Dutch, French, German, and Italian cities to take part in the November 2017 conference. ...
German Forum elects Deputy Mayors of Augsburg and Essen to replace outgoing President, the Deputy Mayor of Stuttgart
The German Forum DEFUS has elected the cities of Augsburg (Bavaria) – represented by Deputy Mayor Dirk Wurm – and Essen (North Rhine-Westphalia) – represented by Deputy Mayor Christian Kromberg – to its board, in replacement of outgoing President Dr. Martin Schairer – Deputy Mayor of Stuttgart –, during its General Assembly meeting held in Dresden, on 11 June 2018. Efus expresses its deep gratitude to Martin Schairer for his longstanding commitment to urban security in Europe and is happy to see Stuttgart continue to contribute to the work of Efus’ Executive Committee. By the same token, Efus congratulates Dirk Wurm and Christian Kromberg. The cities of Augsburg and Essen have contributed to many Efus-led European projects. ...

Partners in the Solidify project on drug consumption facilities visit Barcelona’s scheme on drugs
Consortium members of Efus’ Solidify project on Supervised Drug Consumption Facilities (SDCFs) gathered in Barcelona on 21-22 June for a two-day visit about the city’s drug action plan and its integrated model on drug consumption facilities, which offers a wide variety of high quality services to drug users. Barcelona’s integrated model of SDCFs, which have been established as part of a local Drug Plan that is periodically renewed and backed by all the political parties represented at the City Council, is an inspiring practice. Indeed, it can be considered as a model that can provide guidance and knowledge for other municipalities seeking to reinforce their local harm reduction strategies. ...
The use of social media for the management of large events: a Medi@4sec workshop in Setúbal, Portugal
Efus and the Medi@4sec project on the use of social media for public security organised on 6 July in Setúbal (PT) a dissemination event on the theme “Riots and large events,” which was attended by 25 delegates representing the host city and other Portuguese municipalities, including Alcacer do Sal, Cascais, Lisbon and Matosinhos. Medi@4sec will organise three more such events in the upcoming months. The next one will be co organized by the Emilia Romagna region (IT) on 30 October on the theme “Social media and local police in Europe: cities communicate with citizens for security and trust”. ...

Efus is looking for an expert to evaluate a European cooperation programme on the topic of supervised drug consumption facilities throughout Europe. The purpose of the project evaluation is to verify that the project has been correctly implemented according to the Agreement with the European Commission and to check whether its objectives and expected results have been achieved. Efus and 3,000 delegates attend the 2018 German Congress on Crime Prevention dedicated to the prevention of radicalisation
Efus and some 3,000 participants – elected officials, politicians, practitioners from national, regional and local authorities, representatives of civil society and the private sector, researchers and journalists – attended the 23rd German Congress on Crime Prevention (GCCOP), which was hosted on 11-12 June by the city of Dresden, the federal state of Saxony and the Crime Prevention Council of Saxony. The overall theme of the event, the largest annual conference on crime prevention in Germany, was “Violence and Radicalism - Current Challenges for Prevention”. ...
Efus at the inaugural meeting of the newly-formed Civil Society Forum on Drugs
Recently re-elected as member of the Civil Society Forum on Drugs (CSF), a consultative body at the European Commission, Efus took part in the inaugural meeting hosted by the Directorate General Migration and Home Affairs, on 3-4 July in Brussels, to meet EC representatives together with other civil society organisations and discuss activities planned for the next three years. ...
How to tackle gender-based violence in Europe and in Latin America? Efus and some 70 participants exchange during a 3-day seminar in Paris
How to tackle gender-based violence in Europe and Latin America? This was the theme of a three-day seminar organised in Paris on 25-27 June by Expertise France, the French international cooperation agency, as part of the Eurosocial cooperation programme between Europe and Latin America. Efus took part along with some 70 participants from both continents. They shared their experience and highlighted the importance of evaluating and designing evidence-based strategies, but also the need to support victims, to develop prevention, to work on issues of masculinity, to strengthen the role of local authorities, and to improve access to justice. ...

KASA - Kölner Anti Spray Aktion (Action Anti Spray), Cologne, Germany
Action Anti Spray Cologne (KASA) was founded in 1998. In Cologne, the number of illegal graffiti in the urban landscape had increased, leading a growing number of citizens to lodge a complaint. In order to prevent an unhealthy image of the city, Cologne designed a programme that includes both repressive and preventive measures to tackle graffiti in public spaces. They do this in a systematic way to motivate and mobilise private owners to quickly clean up graffiti on their property. ...
