New Family Activity: Rail Smart Rally

Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum, is offering a new activity for families with children aged 8 to 12 years old, as well as for groups, schools and day camps. Created in the same spirit as the ongoing exhibition on railway safety Stop, Look, Listen: Incoming Train?, the purpose of this activity is to raise awareness and inform the public about safety around railways. With the help of an exploratory notebook (which is available at the reception desk and included in the entrance fee), visitors experience the six stages of the rally as they move through the museum. They detect hazards, discover safety equipment on railway vehicles, locate level-crossing markings, identify dangerous behaviours, and learn good safety practices in an entertaining and safe environment. They will also come to understand the reality experienced by train operators dealing with incidents on the railways.

This project was made possible by financial support from Transport Canada and the ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec and with the collaboration of Operation Lifesaver.

Exhibition on Railway Safety - Stop, Look, Listen: Incoming Train?

This permanent exhibition on railway safety has been produced by Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum, in collaboration with Operation Lifesaver. It is intended primarily for children aged from 3 to 7 years old and their parents. Presented at Exporail’s Hays train station as an interactive experience with railroad-themed décor, it facilitates the understanding and application of safety messages. Alongside their parents, young visitors take on the role of apprentice locomotive engineer using their imagination, senses and motor skills to complete eight challenges. They learn to detect danger when approaching train tracks and to recognize the safety signs and devices surrounding them.

This project was made possible by financial support from CN as well as other companies in the rail industry, including the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT).

Special exhibition from June 9th to August 12th:  Kids Celebrate!

A travelling exhibition developed by the Canadian Museum of History.

This lively exhibition helps children discover the importance and diversity of celebrations in Canada. It provides them with a stimulating exploration of the celebrations that bring families together, and gives children a sense of belonging and caring for others. Visitors can explore 12 celebrations through the seasons – from large groups of people gathering for a day of festivities, to special moments in children’s everyday lives. The associated activities provide young visitors with opportunities to be creative, solve problems, and take on new roles.

The Archive's Voice

The Archives Aloud performance relates stories and shows slices of life drawn from the MRC de Roussillon (Rousillon region), which was the cradle of railway development in Canada.  Produced for the general public as well as history lovers, these readings bring historical documents from our archives to life again.  This activity will take place on some Sunday afternoons; please consult our cultural calendar at exporail.org for details.

This project was made possible by financial support from Fonds culturel de la MRC de Roussillon and in partnership with the ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec, Ville de Saint-Constant and Ville de Delson.
